Colorado River following the Beauty and Majesty 1997 to 2025
The Colorado River originates on the westward slopes of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado above a small town named Granby. It flows over 1,450 miles to the Gulf of Mexico, draining an impressive 246,000 square miles encompassing parts of Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, California, Nevada and New Mexico.
It is a vital and integral part of agriculture, business, tourism and recreation and it’s uses have been governed by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Colorado-River Compact of 1922. Today the water management and allocation are also governed by the CRWUA and Las Vegas and Lake Mead play a significant role of uses, conservation and allocation for the 7 state members of the CRWUA.
The collection of images shown here range from Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Nevada. The Assignment for the SNWA was to capture the ‘majesty and beauty of the river – without the influence of man’. So, all scenic, no recreation and no agriculture. As the photographer that sentence helps me to understand when and where to place the camera, which way to face and when to click the shutter. Of course, that is a little bit of an elaborate explanation, the point being, what message would the final images best convey. That is immensely helpful in understanding a photographic assignment.
