Photographic panoramas and especially aerial panoramas are what I consider to be some of the more thought-invoking attention-retaining and compelling images that might be planned and executed for commercial or fine art applications. And the magic conjured is so much more involved than cropping a section of a wide-angle image to fit a format. Its literally adding together a series of 5 to 12 images. Within the category of scenic landscape photography it is fun to imagine and remember that all art borrows from its predecessors. This is a good and relevant history. Basics of composition, lighting, rules of thirds are happily and traditionally the tools available to photographers even to this day. When working on scenic landscapes there are a lot of other details involved- maps, travel, time, destinations, vehicles, provisions and gear and even more gear. Hear about it. Derivative photography includes affiliated images, attributed imagery and similars. In thoughtful proprietary hands images can multiply … can be very colorful … thematic … near complimentary … even monochromatic. Magically they evolve and become members of a family of images, part of a sequence or better yet part of an experience. Often times they are inspired by travel, hobbies, or fascinations.
